#fillupthedome

ANOTHER DREAM TURNS INTO A REALITY

#FillUpTheDome was a dream of a South African hip hop artist who wanted to be the first in the country to fill the Dome with no international help and his dream came true October 31 2015.

Some dreams are just dreams and some are meant to be lived. It seems as though a lot of people were behind Cassper Nyovest in his dream to fill up the Dome especially because he would be the first artist in the Country to ever achieve such. Big brands from the high cabinet such as Minister of sports and creation Fikile Mbalula and EFF leader Julias Malema were some of the people supporting the dream. Who would have thought the Minister and EFF leader at a hip-hop concert taking pictures and the minister dressed like a hip-hop artist? Not me that’s for sure. The president himself took to tweeter and said'' we congratulate Cassper Nyovest for his tremendous success which has demonstrated the rich talent that exist within our country''. Although there are some brands who didn’t think he would achieve this and thought it could never be done by a local artist with no international help.
When the President took to tweeter to congratulate the artist it left the tweeter world surprised. We didn’t know that the President of the country would be interested in such. The artist said in the Sowetan ''i'm not making money from #FillUpTheDome, i'm losing money from the Dome but for me its how many kids am i going to inspire?''. When people heard that Cassper was losing money instead of making money they wanted to go support him because they knew he was not benefiting from the event.

With the artist having to achieve such an achievement, it not only inspired other artist but it also had apolitical influence because not only did the politicians go to the concert but they also went to the social networks such as tweeter and tweeted about it.The President was criticized for praising the rapper. The tweeter world said'' if only Zuma was this quick to respond to #feesmustfall than he in congratulating the rapper''. Having such big names tweeting about #fillUpTheDome gave the artist even more exposure, not only here in South Africa but also internationally.

Not everyone was supporting Cassper in his dream to fill up the dome because lets face it, not everyone is a Cassper fan. Celebrities such as Anele Mdoda and Mika Stefano took the conversation to twitter. Mika Stefano said'' i just pray that when he;s met by harsh reality he doesn't say, its because no other artist supported me''.

Social media can work to ones advantage if used strategically. With the #FillUpTheDome i recommend that the concert could have been televised live on the television so that even the ones who didn’t go can still enjoy the show because there are people who really want to go to then concert and can’t because they can’t afford to buy the tickets. People can even use face book to discuss the show and even give ratings as to how good or bad they think the show will be because let’s face it, not everyone is a Cassper Nyovest fan. Also the radio can be used to have some parts of the show aired on the radio. Not everyone has a television or using social media so having some parts of the show on the radio will also be another way of using the social media strategically.

                                                    #FeesMustFall

                                             fighting for our future

The fees must fall movement started in Wits University after the                                            University said that there would be an increase of 10.5% in fees in                                           the year 2016 Read more
.

Hello everyone I’m sure that you are aware of the fees must fall protest but I want to give
you my personal thoughts on the matter. #feesmustfall was not only a movement done by students who are currently in Varsity, but big brands also joined the movement to show that they are also supporting the #Feesmustfall campaign. The DA spokes person on education Belinda Bazzoli said’’ higher education minister appears to be absent whenever the crunch comes and has done little to that is nothing to address even though he has been warned about it for years. Tumisha Masha a South African actor and also a Wits alumni took to Instagram and said’’ As a Wits alumni I pledge my support for the student protest. #Witsfeesmustfall no one should be denied higher education on the basis of finance''. Vice Chancellors of our Universities met recently to speak to both the president and Minister Blade Nzimande to let them know of the critical lack of funding for both the students and Varsities.

Big brands taking to the streets in order to support the students made the protest to trend all over the country. The fact that so many brands were behind the students gave them even more power to fight for what they believe in .Because the movement was trending all over the country, people in high chairs had now given the movement their full attention and are trying to come up with strategies in order to deal with the issue at hand with the students making it clear that they will not settle for anything else that the
0% increase in fees. Although people in high power were trying to come up with strategies to amends the issue, the students felt like they are taking their time in dealing with the issue and all they want is 0% increase in fees and this made it look like the people within high power were not giving this matter the much needed attention it requires.

Students demand that Zuma does something about fees
Personally I recommend that the movement be more televised. The television was only showing old broadcasts of the movement and not what was really going on. Television has greater audience, impact and effect and using it will show everything as it happens when it happens so that people can have a good understanding of the intensity of #feesmustfall.
